Viola is as authentic in this book as she comes across in her interviews.

I admire the grace with which Viola Davis reflects on her parents. She shares how their shortcomings affected her, while also honoring their stories and the events that shaped them. Without saying it outright, she encourages us to empathize rather than judge, inviting us to consider the struggles they faced that led to their flaws. I’ve never felt as close to her as I do now, reading this book in her voice. I respect her more than ever, as I now see the woman behind the red carpet megastar—what a true beauty she is.
